We are new to pinewood derby but have made great strides. Last year my sons car was too low (old wooded track) and didn't even make it down the track, he was a tiger and took it hard. This year we started 6 weeks early and did alot of research ahead and won 1st place in wolfs in our pack, the pack overall, 2nd in district in wolfs, and 1st in wolfs in area. He came in 8th overall in area. the fasted run the car did was 250 mph on a 45 foot aluminum track, I don't remember the elapsed time but the next fasted car was around 246mph. I don't know if that allows any kind of comparison to others but I am just curious. Area was won after I had to change the front wheels twice, apparently the nubs on the edge of the wheels have to be intact, did not know and got a little over done with the sand paper. I am sure he would have won area we had not had to make new wheels in 10 minutes ( we did not have prepared spares, we will know next time). anyway, car was total home build, no bought parts, used axles out of bax and shaped car at home, pounded fishing wights into reqtangle and embeded in car.
anyway, if anyone knows where we can look at how fast the fastest cars are, it will give us something to work towards, thanks

Joetoken, Great to have you, welcome. The best way for you to tell how you are doing is to join one of the proxy racing leagues such as WIRL or PWDRacing. You will be racing against the countries top builders who are all great people and a wealth of knowledge. You can go to the following links to get info on proxy racing. www.wirlracing.com/www.pwdracing.com/You still have time to get your car in the mail for the next race at WIRL on May 24th. This type of format will enable you to hone your skills for next year(sounds like your son has 4 more years of pwd), but I have to caution you, it is addictive. As far as times, 245 mph scale speeds is pretty fast, but without elapse time it is hard to tell. I can tell you that my sons outlaw car from RA state race ran a 4 run average of 2.221 on a 32 ft wooden track and scale speed of around 246 mph. But I wouldn't use that as a gauge because different type and lenght tracks will show different times. That's why proxy racing is so good because you can race against the fastest guys and hone you skills and try different things. Sounds like you have caught the pinewood bug so go ahead and dive head first. Next year, your boy will be waiting at the finish line for everyone else to get there. Beakerboysracing
