Hi Pros Need help! My son and daughter need to build some winning awana cars. Whats the fastest car shape? How much should the trim down block weigh? What kind of weight should I use? Tungsten blocks plates or discs? What tools are a must for the awana hard plastic wheels? It seems like last yr the biggest struggle was working the wheels and the axels. I didnt really feel like I knew what I was doing. Any help would be great my kids and i are completely hooked on racing and we want to build the fastest car on the track. Thanks Newbie2 Who would be a good source to purchase Awana racing products?

Kirby,
Can you post the rules for the race you are building for? That is always a good place to start before any specific advice is offered.

That has been debated for a long time. I have had success with both. If you are farely new to PWD, I would stick with graphite as it is really hard to screw it up. Oil is a little tricky and takes a little practice and patience to master. I believe Awana axles are close to 3/32 or .0935 in size. That would be a #42 for an exact same size hole but you want to drill a little smaller so you have no slop. Drill with a #43(.089). I'm sure there is a brad point bit to be found, but I find great success in using a Pro Body tool with a regular bit and drill by hand slowly with a pin vise. Drill presses and hand drills spin to fast and will sometime cause your bit to wander. If you drill slowly and just a little at a time with a pin vise, you will have much more accurate holes. Hope this helps Scott Beakerboys

Kirby, when is your race? I"ve been doing the GP race for about 10 years now. Send me a PM and I'll give you a few keys. What kind of track to you race on?
