Do I buy a wheel shaver, or is the hub alignment tool all I really need? What about the axle press? Could you rank the wheel and axle tools in order of greatest benefit / bang for the buck. Thanks.

pro wheel mandrell is the biggest bang for the buck ! the next I think is the pro body tool. The pro axle press would be next.
Really all three are the best bang, they are what I feel the three tools that will most impact and help you. With noticable huge results.
The rest still very usefull and a big help and all inter connect to what should be done to improve your cars performance and ability.
but those are the three tools You could 1st start off with the biggest impact.

What do you make of the wheel shaver? I thought this would be the most important, but I have NO experience. Also, with the mandrel, am I just using it to bascially sand the wheels a little? I watched the video of the tool being used, but it really is just about setup and does not really show them treating the wheel. Thanks. Jeff

Pass on the wheel shaver and purchase lathed wheels. Naturally make sure you're not breaking a rule. Using the wheel shaver is not a quick process and the wheels you shave may have something wrong at/in the hub. The major dealers of lathed wheels inspect their wheels and toss the bad ones. Some of them also enlarge the bore to .097 and .098 where a larger axle can be used, again check your rules for the axles you can use. Many league racers purchase lathed wheels because they know they cannot do better without a heavy investment.

I hand turned many wheels only using the wheel mandrel. My cars rattled a lot when running. At the time I didn't know what was making the noise as I believed my wheels were round. Other cars seemed to purr down the track and were fast. After buying the wheel shaver I checked my wheels. Man were they off by a lot! The shaver works great if you using stock wheels. Then chuck them in the mandrel for the final polish.

With a bit of care and a Pro Wheel Shaver XT you can get the run-out of your wheels closer than most with a lathe can. i can consistantly do a set of wheels with the Pro Wheel Shaver XT in 15 mins or less. We test and CQ tools to create wheels to .001" and have seen some finished wheels that are worse than wheels out of teh box yet have a pretty finish. The reason the Derby Worx / Warp speed wheels are so perfect is due to the speciality fixturing for the wheels, great equipment and our programs.
Bang for the buck:
1. Pro Body Tool or Pro body Jig. 2. Axle Press 3. Pro Rail Rider Tool 4. Hub Tool (also the base for the next 2 tools) 5. Pro Wheel Shaver XT & Pro Outter Hub Shaver 6. Pro Wheel Mandrel 7. Pro Hub Bore Polisher. 8. Pro Axle Guide. (If you are using slots)
Most of our dealers offer a kit at a discount over individual tools.
Good Luck!
