I need your opinions on this one... My son is in a new pack this year. This is a large and active pack however, they are somewhat antiquated when it comes to their pinewood derby. The pack has a wooden 4 lane track with a broken timer. They will only use two lanes because the winner is determined by two guys "eyeballing" the finish line. So... the fastest car must win about 10 races to take 1st overall. I am concerned about running that many races. What should I be aware of, or concerned about, regarding car set-up, lubrication, etc... when it comes to running that many races???

Well at my sons pack it's nine races. but by the fastest times.
10 races, seems like you would be okay, unless you left out if they are rotating lanes and you are talking 10 heats. not 10 runs.
you might just add and go a little heavy with the graphite, which would give the first few runs slower times. but would certainly be faster in the later races.
A very good job on the axles and wheels are certainly important.

Our pack rents another pack's Best Track, but the kids run 2 heats in each lane (8 heats) for their den race, and then the top 3 from each den run 2 heats in each lane for the overall trophy (8 more heats). By the end of the night my boys' cars have run 16 races and their last race is about as fast as their 3rd race (takes a couple to work the excess graphite out of the bore).

Just FYI, have 5 parents chip in 20 bucks for a timer. Should be able to find a good "judge" for 100-125 dollars. This would eliminate a lot of stress/problems.
