Hello All,
I am getting ready to do some machine work on some Awana wheels I have a pretty nice lathe to use at work in our machine shop. I am not a machinist by any means but we have a couple of 25 plus yrs machinist who will help me get a set-up going. I just need to tell them what I would like to do. After talking with them we came up with this order to machine the wheels.
1) machine OD to make round 2) machine ID to take off weight 3) face wheel 4) cone hub
Do any of yall see anything wrong with the order to do the wheels?
I was also wondering if the pro wheel mandrel is what people use to machine the OD of the wheels. I would like to make the set-up as easy as possible with out trying to over engineer some thing.
I already have a holder out of REN to task 2 thru 4. I was hoping for some help on machining the OD.
Thanks Steve

Steve,
You need to adderess the hub faces first to insure accuracy in mounting your wheel on the mandrel or fixture. This is the orginal reason we created the Pro Hub Tool and Outer Hub Shaver. A wheel will only finish as good as the reference surfaces that you mount from or the hub that you turn it on.
