Here is this years entry. A flying saucer. Complete with an Alien and his dog to go under the clear canopy. (The whip antenna and 'coon tail was my idea) I have to say, that I am pretty excited for this one. It will be a challenge to get it to run fast. Last year there was a little car called "breakfast on the run". It was a plate with bacon, eggs, and toast on it. It was suprisingly fast, as I remembered. This car will be similar in that there will be next to no wheelbase. The track is wooden, with a fairly gentle ramp and transition and the flat section has a fair amount of length too. I don't remember thinking it was a rough track either. It seems to favor a conservative COM. To construct it I think we will make it in 3 pieces. A box for the base and 2 rings (1 with a 45* bevel) then add a dome. I think a lid from one of the gumball machine containers, maybe. My question for you guys is: Wheelbase is 1.5" I'm not sure how stable I can make it. RR seems irrelevant. Would you guys try it? What about canting all 4 wheels to minimize contact with the rail? COM well, there really isn't one, but I can get it low. Rules allow for oil, how about Krytox 100? Does this oil favor grooves on the axles?

Why not use a 1/4" plank and then mount the saucer on top..if you mount the saucer on a piece of clear plastic it would look like it was hovering? The plank can be painted to look like Mar's surface (or your favorite planet). Now RR, COM, etc are no longer an issue.

Also, I think I am going to stick with graphite. I am comfortable with it and money is tight. I'd rather get a pair of those axle pliers instead ...
