As someone new to PWD, I've been thinking about the next build and one item I'm wondering about is in regards to securing the axles. On our first project we did the alignment and then glued the axles. But now I'm thinking that I'd like to spend more time working on alignment and tweaking to make a rail rider. Do people work to get the alignment right and then drop some glue on or do you use set screws?
I tried searching the forum and didn't see enough discussion to warrant one way or the other, but I know when I tried doing basic alignment work on our first car it seemed that it was really touchy in terms of getting the alignment set and then making sure it held.
thx

If you are using standard "out of the box" BSA axles, drill your holes with a #44 drill bit. That size will hold your axle tight with-out having to add glue. If an axle does become loose because of repeated removal and installation then I would drill a small hole in the bottom of the car exposing the pointed end of the axle. When everything is adjusted to your liking put a small dab of glue in the hole to secure the axle. If you do it that way it is easy to soften and remove the glue if you want to pull your axles.
