hey guys and gals, we just ran our !st ever cub scout pine wood derby and like everyone else we want to go faster, i have a few questions about wheels, i've been looking around at various different wheels and have seen places that sell matched wheels by mold # and seen various ways to mod the them, is there anyone out there casting new wheels based on the mesh style centers but with and un drilled axle bore, so that the end user can precision fit the wheels and axles?

Hi Rusty, As far as I know, the answer is "no" to your question. I believe the reason for "no" is that it would be very, very hard to get that hole correctly in the center of the wheel! Then, that hole would have to be perfectly smooth and round! Most BSA rules only allow for BSA wheels to be used in racing. Thanks! Murph

Thanks murph, was just something i had thought about, as to boring the axle hole in the new wheel it could be done on a lathe to insure its correct placement and diameter. Im trying to find a good combo with less wobble than what comes out of the kit.

I was thinking the same thing as you, only not finding wheels that aren't predriled. I was going to use plastic filler and fill in the bore and redrill the bore to a smaller size that the axles, then to smooth it outby sanding and axles polish. What do ya'all think?
