Awana's new rules say "original Width and Diameter" so I can't shave my tread down to 1/8" wide any more. I don't have a lathe (I do have a n industrial drill press) so how can I lighten the wheels. Remember, they are quite soft and there's not a lot of extra that I can remove without sacrificing integrity of the rolling surface.

Update: I decided to take a couple sockets and wrap them with sandpaper, mount the wheel backwards in the mandrel and insert the socket/paper into the wheel. I used 3 sizes and two grades of paper. I removed substantial material from each but my scale isn't that precise so a set of 4 still shows up at 8 grams. Same as a untouched set. I know I removed a bunch of material. We'll see on race day. Upside is I know that the wheel will be quite well balanced after that and prepping the outside.
