I just bought a set of Warp's Inertia-Lite wheels for my kid's pinewood derby car we're gonna make next spring. I can do everything except make the wheels.
Last year, I got my wheels from the "Pinewood Derby Den". They were better than what I could make, but let me tell you, these wheels I got from Warp make ANYTHING else I've ever seen look poor.
I'm sure you guys make good ones for your cars, but I don't have a lathe, so I figured that if I got a set of Warp's wheels I couldn't go wrong.
Last year, we were fastest in our Pack using the "Derby Den" wheels. We even beat some kid who's Mom paniced and bought him an e-bay car. (That car was dadgum fast, however, it beat everyone else's.)
We were third in District, and qualified to go to Council. We were slow at Council, however.
Learned a few things... 1) Don't glue the axles in. We couldn't relube very well between events. 2) We need to spend a little more time/effort on alignment. 3) And, we needed better wheels! Our spin times weren't great because our wheels weren't balanced. 4) I was a bit over zealous when polishing axles. I believe I reduced the diameter too much creating excessive play. Especially on the front wheels.
So, I can fix problems 1 and 2. The new wheels have fixed number 3. And, I believe I can do better with the axles this year.
Soooo, if the new car does any good, we may give it a WIRL! We'll use the builder name: Waskally Wabbit Wacing!
(Gesh... my wife already thinks we've gone off the deep end on this PW derby thing...) ;D
