My take is that shy of spending oodles of bucks on a scale, I'd immediately invest in one of the certified 5oz. weights. Then, no matter how crappy a scale you have, you can center it out.... just my $.02 worth. I got one of the $29 scales from Staples. It's pretty accurate, and with the certified weight, you can't go wrong.

I bought mine from MaxV and love it! It's nice to have a scale you can calibrate. We bought one for our Awana group to use as the official scales. It takes all of the doubt out of weigh-in's.

My take is that shy of spending oodles of bucks on a scale, I'd immediately invest in one of the certified 5oz. weights. EFC I bought one of the 5oz weights from the WIRL store. It is not certified but the one I bought weighed 141.8 grams on a certfied scale at work (it only measures in tenths therefore it could not display 141.75). For $12 you can't go wrong. I even donated it to my son's pack, so there would be no doubt at our districts that we ran.
