We have a track and finish line no timer. We don't rent. I remember reading that on Derby Talk but that wasn't me. We have a 2 lane 32' homemade wood track that is falling appart... I am going to handle this w/o the pack Well, you probably know the local politics there better than I would. Are you/contributors planning to donate the track to the pack with the understanding you will be able to use it to run WIRL and special events.

It will be the packs track that I keep and they can use every winter! That way I don't go to jail for fraud!

I have a few suggestions for you. It sounds like a great idea but there are protocols to getting things done. I can understand that the "district guy" would not want to give out phone numbers for the members of his council. Being on the other side of that, I would not appreciate my number being given out without my permission. However, there are ways to get the word out to the scouts so that they can call you. Our district has a roundtable every month where the den leaders can go and share ideas. There is also a leaders kickoff meeting for the entire district. You should contact the Assistant Scout Executive for your district to ask if you can publicize your event. Are you a member of a Cub Scout Pack? You should work on this through your pack. An event like this takes a lot of work to organize, run and a committee of people to make everything run smoothly. I am originally from Troy, Ohio and my Mom sent me a clipping from the Piqua paper on an event the scouts had in the Piqua Mall a few months ago. You may want to look them up for some suggestions on how they made it happen. Also, I really think you should check out the racetender software www.racetender.com. It does double elimination and I think you may like it.

Troy? Sorry to hear that, we all have skeletons in our closets! ;D I am from Beavercreek! My dad is actually a Teacher at Troy Christian. Anyhoo... He is not refusing to help me he said he would get them to me he just never has! The guy spends more time trying to convince me to use used bowling trophies than he does helping me. I am sure he is the reason we have no districts in the recent past, I have done about 60% of the planning for this project and I am eager to get started, a lot of people are willing to help I think myself and 9 others should get it done!

Pinewood Performence, I found this cool BSA pack website that has some good info on setting up and layout for the pwd. There is a great blueprint style layout on there that shows track placement, seating arrangements, computer and screen locations. They use Microwizard, and Derbymaster software. They also show pictures and info from t.v. coverage. The site also shows an downloadable format of an pinewood derby drivers liscense for the kids. It shows there name, pack number, rank, and car i.d. number. I am working on this for my own packs pwd. This will help you in two ways: first, by preregistering all the kids you can preasign car numbers, and load their names into the race management program a few days before the race. Second, you can print off the master list and use it to check in the kids as they arrive, and then you only have to put the number stickers on the cars after passing inspection. Go to www.pack1421.org Hope this helps!! check it out!!!!
