Hey guys,
I just found out about a race August 14th in Wapakoneta, OH. There is a car show there and the local scout troop is holding a PWD race to coincide. They are having several categories of racing. There is a vintage race, Cub Scout test class, Black Swamp council spec class, show car class, and the rules bender class. Rules bender is for adults only. Vintage is for anyone that currently is or used to be in scouts and wants to race their old car. Scout test is only for boys that will be racing next year and want to try out new things. Council spec class is open to adult past members of the BSA. Show cars is open to anyone and show cars do not have to race but I believe they race if you want to. The way it looks the only class my daughter will be able to enter is the show car one, although she won't win show she may be able to win the speed prize in that class.
If anyone is interested council rules are pretty common rules for size and weight. Axle slots must be used, wheels must be perpendicular to car body, wheels and axles may be sanded and polished to remove imperfections- no other modifications allowed, obviously no wheel bearings or bushings, forward most part of car has to be the lowest and at least 3/4 inch wide, no u or v shaped front ends or other designs to give unfair advantage at start line, only axles supplied in official BSA kits are allowed, no liquid lubes - powdered graphite is recommended. That is about it for all classes except rule benders.
Rule benders - 7 inches long x 2 3/4 inches wide max (same as council rules). 6 ozs, wheelbase may be altered, any wheels may be used as long as they are of same size as bsa wheels, wheels may be grooved or reshaped but at least 3 wheels must make contact with inspection table (is there really anyone that can balance a car on 2 wheels?), any lubricant can be used as long as it does not make a mess on track (that will be cause for disqualification), magnetic material may be used but design of car cannot impart motion from the start pin to propel the car (what the heck else would you use the magnets for). Also each class is only open to the first 50 entrants and there is no pre registration. So if you build a car and come but don't get in don't be mad at me. I am worried that I may not even make it. Also the whole thing starts at 10:00 a.m. For complete rules and details you can call Dad's Toy Shop at 1/419-738-2007.
Good Luck to any that can make it. I know it is short notice but I hope to see a couple of you there.
