For all you Royal Rangers out there!!!! Step 1 You'll need the DerbyWorx Pro-Wheel Mandrel & RR Bushing from MaxV Step 2 Chuck-up the mandrel. Gently press brass bushing on the wheel, insert & thread thumbscrew into mandrel. Tighten thumbscrew firmly. Step 3 Start Lathe at lowest speed (approx 50rpm) move tool rest slowly towards mounted wheel untill just touches. Zero gauge, add .002. Small thin shavings should start to peel off wheel. Step 4 Continue untill wheel is shaved almost flush with spokes (approx .060 removed) Repete for opposite side. Stock wheel weighs 3.90gr Stage 1 weighs 2.35gr Stage 2 weighs 1.50gr (spokes hollowed) If your rules state you must use "screws & dowels" heres how to get to the finish faster!!!

The wheels I recently got from Royal Rangers are different. They have 6 spokes and the outside, a smooth 'dome' on the inside, and a serrated edge on both sides. Where did you get your wheels, and which are the 'official' RR wheels?

MaxV,
Those are some older wheels I had left over from previous seasons.
The "new" kits from GPH do come with the wheels you just described.
Both wheels are considered "official" until the older style kits are gone/used-up from the District Supply Store. (At least in our District. Can't speak for other regions.)
As with BSA, Royal Rangers truly have no "National" standard. Each Outpost/Section/Division/Region set local rules & regs.
FYI, MaxV I'm currently working on modifying the newer style wheel.

Drilled the apex with .062 bit, then the field with .125 bit. then played 'connect-the-dots' with a Dremel tool. Final smoothing done with jeweler's files. Used a silver 'paint-pen' to highlight the spokes for the photos. I'm currently working on the 'new style' 6-spoke wheels. Post pics ASAP....... HyperDrive, Are you a Royal Ranger?? Love to swap ideas on these 'screw & dowel' cars with you
