Well, we've had a little bit of a disappointment in the District races after fairing extremely well in our Packs PWD on April 8th. My oldest son's car, The Green Comet, did not even come close to placing after looking awesome in the Pack's races two weeks ago. His car started to wobble, badly, after every race and just could not maintain the speed advantage he had off the line. Thought that I had it corrected prior to the races and it looked great for the first three and then just went downhill from there.
My youngest son's car, Big Dog, faired much better and actually ended up in 6th place overall. He was nipped at the end by less than an inch by the boy who took 5th. There was literally a 2 - 3 point difference between he and the top 5 finishers. No complaint there.
Overall it was a good experience, however I was disappointed with the a few of the Pack/Den Leaders involved with the race as it was complete chaos. A few of the parents, including myself, got involved in trying to keep everything organized and the kids in line. This also meant making sure that the kids racing faced other kids from different packs to keep everything even, but I was accused of cheating by some disgruntled old sour puss of a woman for placing the kids. If not for being the gentleman that I am, I could have knocked her on her butt for embarrassing me and for questioning my integrity. As fate would have it our Pack took 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but I would go as far to say that they were truly the three fastest cars in the bunch. One of the leaders had an outlaw car that was more machined than carved and had ball bearings in the bushings for the axles and still our top finisher nearly beat him.
Like I said, overall a good experience, but I wish it had gone smoother and that computer software would have been used in place of the unorganized scramble.
Thanks,
HogWild
