Anybody have any plans or ideas on how to build a VW? My son wants to make a "Herbie" next year and we have never made anything quite so curvy.

What kind of power tools do you have? Are you going to put fenders on it? Power tools are very limited. I might be able to use a bandsaw from one of my son's fellow cubs father. I do own a scrollsaw, a dremel, power drills, a drill press attachment for a drill. We also have a coping saw which we had very poor results with once and a backsaw. I was thinking a little about using small stips and cutting out the middle possibly but not sure what would be best and easiest to attempt and still have the inside car body be hallowed out so weight could be low and 3/4 - 1" ahead of rear axel. The axels will be at slot positions. Fenders will be added if time and skill permits, I am most concerned about the rear incline going to the roof.

First cut 1/2" or thinner blocks the height of the fenders. Then use a scroll saw, I'm sure one of your buddies have one., to cut out the fender wells. A built a Cheetha last winter and the top was cut out seperate. Then it was hollowed and glued on. This made the weight as low and light as I could with that body style. You could cut out the windows and glue some plastic from the hobby store in for windows. This would make it even lighter. I think the car will turn out good, I saw one on the net last year. They cut off the long front to make the car look right. ( They won the race with it. ) Good Luck

I don't know if the person posts on this sight, or if WIRL could help you out. There was a builder Derby4all that raced in February called Ladybug. Nice looking car, maybe you could get help that route.
