I understand this metal is very dense and hard. Has anyone come up with a way to cut or drill it ?

I tried drilling it with a titanium coated bit. Didn't work. I think a diamond saw might work.

Thanks, guys. I was afraid of that. Once I had the idea that I would 'just drill a hole in this magnet' to make a holder for a tool. Wow, those things are hard too Oh, well. I'll just work with what's available. Maybe someone will offer some different shapes and weights. I would like to see some different weights for the disk, like 1/2oz,4oz, etc. Also some bars that are sized to fit inside. Closest to that are the plates. I've been thinking about casting some lead in the shape of an H to fit around the axles. Anyone else thinking along those lines ?

Purchased a diamond cutting wheel for my dremel. Cuts through the tungsten like butter... Had to create a jig though to achieve straight cuts...turned out much better than I expected...

Wow, great job, Bigtex. I suppose if a diamond wheel won't do the job it just shouldn't be done !! What kind of temps did you see while cutting them. Need any water ?

Mattrix, We do carry the 4 oz. discs on the website www.DerbyDominator.com in addition to the 3 and 3.25 oz. I just got some of the thinner 3 oz. discs that should be up on the site in the next few days. You can see them on the weights page at www.derbydominator.com/Weights.htm . One option to get around the axles is the cubes. For several of our league cars, we have run cubes behind, in between and in front of the rear axle. Sort of the H shape you are referring to. You can cut the axles a bit shorter and fit two cubes in between or go with the smaller 3/16" cubes. You can also run the discs in between the axles to some degree by cutting the axles short and allowing the edge of the disc to cover that area. Bigtex, I think I see a diamond cutting wheel in my immediate future. Thanks for the tip! Darryl

The outer edge of the diamond disc did glow red for a short time but I've never used any water....may experiment later though....
Just be sure to wear some kind of mask (painter's mask will suffice) because it does create a fine dust while cutting...
