A Friend invited me to get in the adults/corporate sponsored class.
This body/wheels combo came in at 2.2oz . I drilled holes for the weight crossway's in the back. 6 ea. 3/8" holes. Since I was running short on time, I got a set of PW Extreme polished axles and stage 2 wheels, and then proceeded to ruin the paint job (let me just say I would rather build them and let someone else paint'em !)
Basically this truck was set up like this :
3 wheels / RR
1 1/8" COM (best I could do with no lead-lead weights - awful stuff)
cambered wheels front and rear.
Truck was aligned well, but as soon as it hit the strait it wobbled horribly
I think I may understand what happened to my truck from other threads about RR/COM relationships. My truck did steer to the right, like I wanted, but not enough.
Here are some shots of the cars before the race.
These are the adults cars, mine is the white truck in the middle.
Here are some of the Scouts' entries
The track is a best track 2 lane, and races were run old school with NO electronics anywhere ... At first I didn't like it, but as the race proceeded I think it's not such a bad idea. I like to know what the car is running, but every racer thought they had a chance when they lined 'em up. Also, there was a very long flat section. Run times were very inconsistent.
I was invited by one Friend, and in turn, invited another. Wouldn't you know, the guy I met in the final was the guy I invited
He brought the purple slingshot dragster (in the picture, right next to my truck) he built with his son 2 years ago. He only lost one race and inched out everyone else to get in the final. My truck beat everyone by a car length. Since I hadn't lost a race, I got 2 chances in the final.
Here it is : (click in the frame)
I was the only one to jump the track and it happened in the FINAL !!!
Alright, I got one more chance. Switched lanes and lined them up again.
ARGGHH !! Inched me out at the wire Oh, well. He's a worthy opponent, and my target for next year. In all, we had a great time and was good to get old Friends back together. The 3 of us have known each other since middle school. Goods times, goood times ...
This is our cars after the awards had been handed out.
My truck, John's funny car (took best design), Steve's dragster, and John's truck from last years race.
