My son finished first place in the Tiger cubs at his district race and 6th overall, out of 71 cars. On what I believe was a forty foot track the winner was running 2.88 second times and my son was pulling down 2.94s all day. We were not rail riding, we had heavy 2.5 gram (new style) wheels with a .030" body gap and a cog of about 1 inch. We also used graphite for lube and tungsten for weight (3 ounces). I know every track is different but I was wondering how good our times really were. The winner did set a track record with that 2.88 sec. So next year I'm thinking we should rail ride and add more weight to a lighter body (getting the cog to maybe 3/4"). Any imput would be great.

Those times sound like 32' track times. Q's: Did the car weigh-in at 5oz? Is the track wooden or aluminum? Any bumps on track at the seams? Are extended wheelbases allowed? Can you modify the wheels/axles?
I suggest rail riding on a smooth aluminum track w/ a COG at 3/4".

I am pretty sure the track was a Freedom 40' aluminum. It seemed to be very smooth. I remember the officials announcing it to be five (8') sections. The starting pin to timer distance very well may be shorter, however the timers were very near the end and the braking area was maybe 18". The actual racing distance was roughly from free throw line to free throw line on a basketball court. We were 5 oz. and had to keep the standard wheel base.

As previous post- get at least 3.75 oz to 4.0z at 3/4 COM.
Also RR
Lastly, if you must use standard wheel base for the axles- then cut off the back .3 off the rear of the car and add it/glue it to the front. However, since I don't know the track very well, if there's any chance you can test this for stability- that would be key.
