Grooved axles or straight axles? Which is better and why?

I find it depends on what lube you use.
Straight axles: oil
Grooved axles: graphite

Oil is not allowed in our race. So there are no issues with grooved axles and graphite then? The only reason I am asking is I read some where that the grooved axles can cause some binding with the angle of the axles. Just trying to not make a mistake before I finish my build.
Thanks for the help.

Update. Dominate wheel straight axle. Rear axles grooved. Graphite only no liquid lube allowed. Tied for first after 5 run average. Lost in the tie break. 42 foot best track with race management software on a laptop. Computer broke the tie. The other car used all grooved axles and it was a rail rider as well.

Sounds like a great race! Breaking a tie with the software is not very exciting, but it sounds like both kids had fast well built cars. You did good with your axle selection, I would have done it the same way.

Organizers did not like the computer tie either but thats what the rules said. They changed the tiebreak for the next race to a head to head runoff of 3 passes. It was a great race from the stand point that there were 6 cars so close that sixth place which was no trophy was capable of winning.
