There is a tip in one of the PWD "speed secret" books that says the cars will get faster after a few races ( if they are properly aligned and built before hand ). They suggest running the wheels with a drill or rotary tool to simulate racing. - What is your opinion on this?

We have used rotary dremmel tool with some success. We have soft head, good control and on slower speeds. We have done this with a ton of lube and spun each wheel thru about 45 seconds each. Essentially the wheels do ride smoother now due to some imperfection we were able to get thru.
I would recommend slow and lastly, not for long- just enough to get them to spin minus the rough roll they exhibited in the first place. We can typically get the roughness to smooth out on each wheel in about 2-3 min with dremmel. Any more than that I would bag it due to a potential of increasing bore size. Doing this with a ton of lube and re-lube has shown to have some advantage.
IF however your wheels and axles are spinning perfectly, no big rattele, no weaving etc, I would lube up spin it a few times by hand and race away. The best bet would be to spin by hand and/or actual track runs. Looking for other opinions but we have used a dremmel in the past but mostly hand/track approach.
