The Indiana Awana Regional Grand Prix was held on April 22. This is the race on the 110 foot monster track. We took 8 kids and 2 leaders to race. 2 of our kids took home design awards, and another leader and I took home speed trophies. Denny took 4th in speed, and I took first. It was a disapointing day for my youngest daughter. Her track record of 5.172 from last year was broken The good news is that we kept it in the family. My fastest run and new track record was a 5.152 ;D There were over 85 cars total. It was, as always, a great time.

Congratulation Mike on your great day! If you don't mind why don't you share with us a little bit what its like to race on such a long track. What are the tendencies of the cars? How much different do you set them up? How much speed the cars are carrying at the finish line etc. Thanks Jonathan

GREAT JOB MIKE!......I CAN SEE HOW A TRACK LIKE THAT WOULD REALLY TEST THE SKILLS OF THE BUILDER - A GREAT TESTIMONY TO YOU. NOW THAT I'VE GOT A GLIMPSE OF THAT "MONSTER" - ANY OTHER SPECS THAT YOU CAN PROVIDE ON THE TRACK ITSELF WOULD BE VERY INTERESTING.

That track is great. I've never even dreamed of a track that long. 5 Seconds is so fast for that length.
Congrats on the track record.

Just curious...How far down can you get the weight of those AWANA wheels?

Mike,
Congratulations on winning what must have been one of the greatest races ever. I just keep thinking about that track.
How high was the top of the incline? If our cars go a scale 200mph, how fast were they going on that track? How on Earth did you get the cars stopped?
It had to be a wonderful day for all involved.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Actually with the long flat part I expect that the speeds at the end aren't much different than say a 50 foot track, but the speed at the bottom of the incline must be awesome. I bet cars that aren't aligned well are pretty obvious on that track. Does rail riding help on a track that big? I would love to see that in person, I bet as great as the pictures are, they just don't do it justice.
Is the track something special? Meaning at work I was talking to a guy that just bought a 35 foot best track. I was wondering if you could add more 7 foot sections to either side of the curve to make a track that big or somethign similar.

Just curious...How far down can you get the weight of those AWANA wheels? You know, I have never lightened them up... We just true them up and cone the hubs. Maybe next year...... How high was the top of the incline? If our cars go a scale 200mph, how fast were they going on that track? How on Earth did you get the cars stopped? The track length is over 100 feet. The top of the incline where the cars are staged is approximately 10 feet. There are steps built to use once you are on the stage to reach the staging area. Not sure on the speed, the coordinator sent me the race data files, maybe I will figure it out when I get a chance. They had to fabricate another 3 feet of stop section as the standard Piantedosi stop section (old style) was not adequate. Does rail riding help on a track that big? Yes, it works well. ;D I was wondering if you could add more 7 foot sections to either side of the curve to make a track that big or somethign similar. I think that if you added much more than 1 extra section to the BestTrack, you would probably want to add more lenght on the front side of the transition. Thanks for all the kind words guys. It really is an awesome experience!

They make us run full width wheels for the competition. I might see if they will let me run a couple of my WIRL cars down the track after the race is over to see what kind of time they will run... That is definitely a fun track to race on!!!
