I know that you have to use a base, then a coat o paint and then a clear coat but...
Do all paints work well together or do I need to "match" base, coat and clear?
Also, can I achieve a nice paint job with arisol or do I need an air sprayer?

I'm not a professional painter as some other here are but I think that you can achieve the quality you want well with a spray can. I use the grey filler primer for all of my cars since sometimes I like to add a silver as a base.
One thing to remember is if you are changing paint types, spray laquers first then enamels or acrylics and top with a polyeurathane clear coat. I usually try to stick witht he same brand of paint or at least the same type of paint. It really come down to the quality of prep work for a really smooth finish. My 2005 Wirl cars were all done with a spray can.
