Need suggestions, recommendations for drilling holes for needle axles. Note, this is for new construction and not converting big axle to needles. What works and what does not?? Thanks in advance for comments.

Hey Ed,
I use the pro body tool to make my mark for the needle axle holes.
I place the body tool where I want to drill my holes. I then take the standard drill bit (#44?) and by hand, make a small divot in the wood with the drill. This gives the small drill a starting point, similar to a spot drill when machining.
Once I get my 4 drill holes spotted, I go to my drill press and drill the small holes, keeping the bottom of my car square to the drill.
Good luck.

Mike, thanks for the suggestions!! I was not sure about the drill press and the small bit...(the flexing). I guess one would have to slow the drill press speed down. I was thinking about using a hand drill, but not sure how to keep bill straight. Comments from others?? Ed Half Moon Racing

Ed, use 1/32 end mill, then finish with .035 drill or what ever you you need. Run end mill and drill at pretty high r.p.m. and clear chips every 1/8 inch. End mill will bore straight and will not deflect from the grain of the wood and drill bit will follow milled hole. Fred
