My 2 Kids both took First place at the Regional Science Fair in their catagory. My Daughter, in addition to taking First place in the Applied Consumer Science Division of the Fair, Also took First place overall for her grade level. This meant alot to the kids because they both worked very hard on their projects.
My daughter tested which ice cream melted the fastest and if the cost of the ice cream was relative to the melting factor.
My son tested whether eating, talking on a cell phone, or changing a CD impair the ability to drive safely, using a simulator of course.
Oh and by the way there sure was alot of pinewood derby testing in the fair.

Thanks guys.
Warthog,
The wife came up with the ideas so she should get the credit for that. She is really into the whole science fair thing. I am more of a test subject and runner of supplies.
The Ice Cream: Ben & Jerry's Stayed frozen the longest and was the most expensive. So yes it does relate to the cost. We also learned that at the 1904 st. louis worlds fair is where they invented the waffle cone and in Europe Ice Cream was called Hokey Pokey. Thereby the ice cream man was the "Hokey Pokey Man." (bet ya didn't know that one)
The distractive driving test: Eating came in first as being the most impairitive followed by cell phones and lastly by changing the CD. Overall conclusion: don't be distracted while driving.
P.S. I hope this was what you were in reference to.
Rails,
I wish we had a state competition. Maybe we do but just for the older kids. My kids are only in elementary school. Each ear we try to do something out of the ordinary that no one has ever done to make the experiments not only fun but a learning experience for the kids and parents. ;D

I have found that shaving with a straight razor while driving was the most hazardous for me.
