OK Guys, Dumb question ( I know there are no dumb questions) Here goes: Pro tool Shaver XT (Partially plastic one) It's obvious blade can only go one way since it only has 1 sharpened ege to do wheel rim Am I a wimp or is clockwise (rolling wheel AWAY from you correct and instructions wrong) Or what's the trick I take small "bites the only way to get the wheel to turn is not even touching the blade or it just gouges. My actual question: Which way does cutting angle go same as hex head or other towards nut holding hex screw in? THANKS John Row colobbfan

John,
What i found was the easiest way to shave the wheels was to hold the wheel stationary while you rotate the tool about the wheel. You want to just lightly shave the surface of the wheel so make minor adjustments, say 1/8 to 1/4 turn, of the screw fixture. Make sure that you turn the tool a minimum of 5 time about the wheel to ensure the wheel has been shaved equally at all surfaces. If the blade is gouging the wheel tread, either the blade will need to be sharpened or you are pushing the wheel into the blade. The old XT shaver does have a tendancy to bend a little where as the new one (made from alum.) does not.

Your a wimp. ;D JK!
You need to turn the wheel counter clock wise and this is turning the wheel towards the flat side of the blade. If you are gouging the wheel, you are taking too large of a cut, you must first find the high spot and adjust to it. I must of shaved a 1000 wheels in Chicago at the I-Hobby show so I guess I do have a knack for it, but try this: Start with the blade up, rotate the wheel with your index finger and thumb in your left hand, while doing this, slightly lower the blade with your other hand a little at a time, once it hits, work it back and forth until you remove some of the high spot at that setting, now add about 1/10 of a turn and continue until the wheel is round. When round, continue untill all of the light fluffy shavings just about stop.
I hope this helps.

Ok Racer X LOL !!! Actually I found out that the up and down turning screw was laying above the cut out on the blade. I bought a new blade from Max V and discovered it wasn't put together correctly when received! I know I hadn't had it apart before yesterday so I didn't mess it up.
Now, this is a GREAT opportunity for Racer X to tell me why the new design will out perform the last design. If he does I'll have Randy (Max V) put me down for one as soon as they ship to him.

They both work equally well. The new Pro Wheel shaver XT-2 is easier to hold and work with, dosen't require a cross bolt and is made from fewer parts so it is a little more accurate and easier to assemble and service. We are very happy with it.

Question, does using the tool take you out of the Pure Stock class?

Nope. ;D
BSA wide wheels are required for the stock racing category. Outer wheel surface may be lightly sanded, shaved, or polished to remove surface imperfections and mold casting burrs, but must not be reshaped in any way in an attempt to lighten the wheel, minimize tread contact or alter aerodynamics. The fluting and other BSA markings on the outside wheel area must remain visible.

Thanks jim..... Since I'm new to this, I want to compete in the Pure Stock class first. My brother in law SlowJoe sent in his car Grocery Getter this time, it did way better than we expected. But, after reading the forums, I think next time we can get some more speed out of our cars. Thanks to all who contribute to this forum, it's what makes this so much fun!! =)
