If your allowed to stage your own cars. . . . make sure you place your car on the track straight, pull your wheels gently all the way out against the heads of the axles and make sure your wheels are the same distance from the center rail on each side. This will help minimize rail collisions and hopefully let your car run straight down the track. Don't be afraid to take a little time staging your car and if possible check it after others have staged after you to insure it didn't get bumped out of position.

I've also told my daughter to let the other racers stage before her if possible so that her car will be the last to be set on the track, removing any possibility of getting bumped by the other racers.

Great thoughts on staging. When heading into finals rounds, ask for the track to be wiped down before your race. The tracks tend to gather quite a bit of graphite to dirty up the lanes. We wipe ours down after each den races and before the finals and open class. By the end of the day we have quite an accumulation of graphite at the end of the track.

With our RA kids, we usually stage the smallest kids, being 1st-3rd grades, cars for them, and from 4th-9th grades we let them stage their own cars. We usally go over proper staging with the track starters before the race and make sure they understand the importance behind proer staging.
