Our pinewood is on the last Saturday of January every year. We setup in the charter church the night before and start registering cars at 9am Saturday morning. We award trophies for the following: 1,2,3 - Tiger 1,2,3 - Wolf 1,2,3 - Bear 1,2,3 - Weblos 1st year 1,2,3 - Weblos 2nd year 1,2,3 - Overall 1,2,3 - Sibling 1,2,3 - Outlaw (we pay a $10 entry fee to race) 5 different design categories This was my son's 2nd year and he didn't repeat his win from last year. He got 4th. My daughter raced again this year and went from 4th last yr to 1st sibling. My wife and I swapped 1st and 2nd outlaw the last two years. Ours is very similar We award trophies for the following: 1,2,3 - Tiger 1,2,3 - Wolf 1,2,3 - Bear 1,2,3 - Weblos combined 1,2,3 - Overall 1,2,3 - Unsanctioned (A.K.A)Sibling/Parent 2001(1car) Tiger#1 2002(3cars) Wolf#1,Unsanctioned tied 3;lost run-off 2003(3cars) oops too aggressive, Best Imiatation Award (Pinewood Derby Track)Unsanctioned#3 2004 (3cars) Weblo#1, Pack#2, , Unsanctioned#3. Most Unique (Lego Car -- and no we never saw anyone's version). broke the car at district registration trying to get all 4 wheels to touch) 2005(4cars) Tiger#1,Weblo#1,Pack#1#2 Most Creative (guitar),Unsanctioned#1,#3. District-Tiger#2 District-Weblo#2 2006(5cars) Tiger#1,Wolf#1,Pack#1,#2, Unsanctioned #1,#2,#3 Districts TBD Every car is different (except this years Tiger/Wolf, they came up with very similar designs, which I really thought would cost them too much time due to the extra drag, best way to describe them would be they both look like door stops). Next year they want the design awards. We have discussed a few ideas and we will have to start building these cars early in September if they will be completed in time.

Fred, You're not old enough to have a GRANDSON, are you?!?!? Fred, It looks to me like they should give us old "Geezers" a little head start (like a car length). Kinda like on "PINKS". What do you think? ? Phil

OK Guys,
So is it pretty well agreed on that we get 1 car length for being a Grandparent, and 1 car length for being an AARP member??
I just hope I can have my Dremel tool at the nursing home..

Thanks for all the tips.
Maybe I can pick up enough extra money at the "Old Folks Home" to pay for my PWD addiction.

Ok, back to the real reason for this post. My son is out of Cubscouts, last year was his webelos II year in which he did win council. Today was my nephews pack race. He won first webelos II and first overall with an average of 3.1913. Second overall was 3.2190. No races were very close for him. Then my son's old pack is having their race tomorrow and set up for practice today. Since district uses their track I took my nephew over to see how his car would run on their track and took my son's last year car as well. My son's car beat my nephew's everytime but I believe my nephews did well enough to do good at districts which is April 1st. What is neat about my nephew doing so well is that Sunday he broke the car that he finished 3 weeks ago.(we had already tested it and it was fast) I glued it together but could not guarantee it would hold. So I cut him another one Monday. Wife took it to him to have him sand and paint. He brought it back Thursday and we slapped the wheels off his broken car on it and aligned it. Never had time to test but appears we did ok. On to districts. Also at my nephews pack race. When it was over the kid that finished dead last was setting down the way from us. I did not hear it but my wife heard his mother say, "It's ok son. We did the best we could. Mommy just don't know much about this stuff." My wife asked if I would be interested in helping the kid next year. I said, "Of course!" So my wife slid down and handed the lady my name and phone number and said, "If you don't have anyone to help next year then give my husband a call." The lady smile and told her son, "See that man over there? He is going to help you next year." I don't even know the kid but I hope she calls. He will be a wolf next year. Which means 4 more years for me! Yippee!

SAME DEAL MY WIFE GAVE HER OUR NUMBER AND ABOUT A 2 MONTHS AGO SHE CALLED. ME AND THE LITTLE GUY BUILT A SIMPLE WEDGE AND WAS ABLE TO PUT HIM IN THE TROPHY ROUND LAST SATURDAY. TALK ABOUT PUMPED,HIS MOM SAID HE FELL ASLEEP WITH THE TROPHY THAT NIGHT. THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT !
