Each car of mine so far to date has has it's very own character and personality. I, as a designer, always feel the need for the car to not only to be fast but to look that way also. Lately i had achieved the second part of that statement but not the first against these top builders in the nation. ;D

I really like both speed and realistic but I build one or the other and can't get both in one car. There is nothing more satisfying than having someone recognize the type and year model I am trying to copy. I'm still trying to get some photo's of cars I have built over the past 8 years to post in the photo's thread.

I'm like Builder Jim, I want each car to be different from the others and as fast as possible. Of course I've only competed in the Pack and District open meets (along with the other fathers) and other charity racers. With any luck my son and I will jump in WIRL next year. We will try to build (for WIRL and PWD) during the Christmas holidays. Time and scheduling will tell. By the way Jim my boy loves your cars.

I try to make every car different and still go for the low profile look. Here is another one of my cars. Can't use it for the pure stock because of the extended wheel base. Maybe for the rookie stock?? I like to think I build them for speed! We'll see...

I just try to cover the weight aerodynamicaly, and connect the three wheels together with some rigidity (the wind can't slow what isn't there!) At the same time, trying to lean towards the old land speed record, "Blue Flame" type cars. Just wish I could paint!!! Warp Speed

I like to build cars that are fast and also look good. It seems like I am never satisfied and I am my own worst critic. Just when I think my cars are starting to look pretty good I see one of Derbymaster's or Jewkes cars and I just sit there and shake my head. I don't own a lathe or any other high tech tools like so many of the top builders so the secret to my success is careful time tested construction techniques. I also have to give a lot of credit to my success this season to Jay Wiles "Warpspeed" for providing me with some awesome wheels!! I get tired of racing the same ole cars so I am always building something new and trying out new designs. However, I have had the best luck with wing style cars.

extended wheel base = not a stock of any division car
extended wheel base = modification to the car, the modified class

extended wheel base = not a stock of any division car extended wheel base = modification to the car, the modified class Hey Mood, It looks like extended wheel base is ok for the the rookie stock division.. Pending Rookie Stock 2007 rules draft « Thread Started on Sept 29, 2006, 5:25pm » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rookie Stock Cars Overview: The Rookie Stock Class is based on the traditional BSA , RA, Awana and other youth organization rules. It is the entry level class for beginning builders new to WIRL racing. Because of the difference in rules between various organizations, the Rookie Stock class rules are more lenient than the pure stock class. There is no maximum height or wheelbase restriction, and different wheel makes are allowed.

I think by looking at my cars, it would be easy to tell that I'm more interested in speed.
The problem is, you can't always tell by watching them run.
I am amazed at the talent of some of the builders. To see some of the cars in person at Lima was a treat.

I build for speed. I have just about given up on trying to make them look pretty. I like trying different designs with as much tungsten and as little wood as possible.

How does everyone get pics on here? When I clicked the insert image button nothing happened. Thanks, Derby Doctor tjohnson6231: I will refer you to one of my previous posts. Follow this and you should have no problem posting pictures. Good luck! Having just done this I will try to post a good step by step way to post your pictures. I don't have photo shop or any other photo software so this is how I did it. I am sure there is more than one way to post a picture. save your picture to my pictures on your hard drive set up an account at photobucket.com (it's free) log onto photobucket.com where it says upload images and videos, hit browse go to my pictures and click your picture, then hit open next, hit upload it you will see your picture on the screen with 3 codes underneath it copy the img code and paste it into your post presto! your picture should appear like this Oh, one more thing. Make sure your picture is not too big. My picture is 400X300 pixels. You could probably go a little bigger, just make sure the picture isn't too big. Hope this helps anyone else who may be trying to post a picture for the first time.

This is what my first car looks like. It was okay for speed, SlowJoe that entered Grocery Getter in the pure stock class, was beating this car by like half a car length. Grocery Getter averaged a 3.15 so I'm not sure what my car ran, but I suppose it was decent. Hopefully we will get a timer so we can get a better idea what all of our cars are running. I will say this, just by reading the different posts in this forum I have learned alot. Hopefully I'll build a faster car this time around, and I think it's cool that I'm 36 and there are other people out there like me who really enjoy this.... Okay here's the pics...
